Reflexology, as a non-invasive touch therapy, is generally harmless. However, there are certain situations where it may not be appropriate, or where an informed decision is required to determine if it is safe to proceed with the treatment, in order to protect my clients, myself, and others I may see.
The following are reasons to avoid booking an appointment and instead seek immediate medical advice where appropriate.
-Acute undiagnosed severe pain
-Severe Cellulitis
-Athletes foot or any contagious condition
-Confirmed or suspected blood clot
-Aneurism
-Within 3 months post face lift (Facial Reflexology only)
-Within 3 weeks post Facial Fillers (Facial Reflexology only)
-Within 3 weeks post Botox (Facial Reflexology only)
The items listed below are topics we will cover during your consultation or catch-up session prior to your treatment and are important to communicate and in some instances, obtain clearance from your GP.
-Allergies
-Arthritis
-Cancer
-Diabetes
-Epilepsy
-Imminent tests/procedures
-Injury
-Fungal nail infection
-Cold sores (Facial Reflexology only)
-Heart problems
-Pregnancy
-Asthma
-Taking blood thinners
This is an opportunity to feel completely at ease and comfortable, so it's advisable to wear clothing that contributes to this sensation. Indeed, it's not uncommon for clients to arrive in their pyjamas!
For Foot Reflexology, I use points not only on the soles of your feet but also ones further up the leg and, on occasion, near your knee. Wearing loose-fitting trousers to roll them up is perfect.
Face Reflexology is not only about the face. Points on your head and neck will also be worked on, so wearing a loose-fitting top or, indeed, removing your top upper garments is common while you settle under a blanket.
Parking is available on the driveway outside my house; you're welcome to use this space.
Arriving on time for an appointment can be quite peculiar. While being early is often beneficial, in this case, please refrain from arriving more than five minutes before your scheduled time. This ensures that I have ample time to clean down, set up, and prepare myself for your treatment.
If you arrive early and find a space available on the driveway, please feel free to park and wait for your appointment time.
If the person receiving the treatment is 15 years old or younger or is an adult with a carer, they must be accompanied during their treatment. A comfortable chair is provided in the treatment room; if preferred, a sofa is available just outside with the door left open. Clients' chaperones often read books, enjoy a cup of tea, or even take the opportunity to relax themselves.
Access to a toilet is always available during your scheduled time.
When booking your treatment with Awaken Reflexology, you will be prompted to complete the appropriate form for your treatment of choice. This helps confirm that Reflexology is appropriate and safe for you and assists in tailoring the most effective treatment plan.
I hope that, at the very least, you will head home feeling relaxed with a sense of tranquillity that lingers throughout your day. Occasionally, a healing reaction may occur. This is simply an indication that your body is physically, mentally, and energetically engaging with the treatment. Post-treatment, one might experience headaches, a temporary worsening of symptoms, emotional shifts, and changes in body temperature, among others. Think about an unused water pipe being turned on after a long time. Initially, there may be some discoloured water, air pockets, and perhaps some strange sounds, but eventually, it will function as intended.
Staying hydrated, steering clear of alcohol, and treating yourself kindly in the following days can help restore your body's balance.
